Western Sydney pours are big and early. Basement slabs are placed as large-area pours with joints and falls marked before the first truck, and suspended decks are poured in the cycle the formwork sets. Pours are booked for first light because the trucks are coming up the M4 or the Cumberland Highway, and a late truck on a deck pour costs the finish.
Because the deck was propped by our own formwork crew and tied by our own steel fixers, the pour date is set when the deck goes up rather than after the inspection. The pump position and line are agreed with the supplier, thickness is checked as the pour goes down, and the surface is finished to the class on the drawings and cured as specified.
Hot westerly days change the pour plan. Placement starts earlier, retarders are agreed with the supplier where the specification allows, and curing compound goes on as the finish is closed rather than at the end of the day. The slab is kept clear until it has the strength to carry the next trade.
How concreting is priced in Western Sydney
